TO THE MOON

Lingxiao Zhang (China)

How the idea for your silent story was born?

My story stems from my own experience. I was very confused in my previous job, I couldn’t find the direction of my life, and I always worked overtime and arrived home late every day. On the way home, I always look at the sky in a daze, hoping that one day I can fly into space. The image of the rat in my story symbolizes the people at the bottom of society, and I hope to show them through this story that dreams are always possible.

What's the story about?

This picture book tells the story of a mouse traveling to the moon. A clever mouse is attracted to the cheese on the table in a restaurant, and he tries to steal the cheese only to be thrown out of the restaurant by the waiter. On the way home, he was attracted to a poster about the moon, which he saw as a big cheesecake, and he decided to go to the moon. He collected all kinds of discarded materials and eventually built a small rocket that flew to the moon.

Why have you decided to enter the contest?

I think this competition is a perfect fit for me and for this book. I think my work deserves to be seen, and this competition gives me that platform.
