A SECRET BAG

Inga Dagile (Lithuania)

How the idea for your silent story was born?

During my creative workshop on the topic of cities and ecology, a student drew ears on a picture of trash I had printed. At that moment, I saw in my head the vision of my future book: the story and the illustrations. All that remained was to draw them.

What's the story about?

The story tells of a man from the city who makes a lot of effort to remove the garbage accumulated in his house and throw it in the forest. The illustrations are created from various paper waste – they were collected during a walk in nature and later scanned at home. This story reminds us that our home is not just an apartment or a house, but the whole world. Therefore, no matter how far a person tries to take their garbage, it does not disappear anywhere – in the end it remains in the same space in which we live.

Why have you decided to enter the contest?

The Silent Book competition finalists’ exhibition is one of my favorite exhibitions at the Bologna Book Fair. Participating in this competition was a long-standing dream of mine, born 10 years ago.
