The connection between ‘existence’ in the “real” world and in the world of art has always held a philosophical attraction to me. Being a cat lover, I decided to explore this theme in the setting of my favorite art museum in Copenhagen – The Glyptotek. The “real” cat meets art-cats, but who is most “real”? the reader must decide!
Unnoticed, a cat sneaks into an art museum among the visitors. The cat sleeps all day, and no one pays attention to it. When the museum closes for the day, the cat wakes up and sets out on a nightly journey through the exhibition rooms. The paintings and statues come to life, and the cat and his new friends explore the museum. In the morning an employee opens the main entrance, and two cats exit the museum: the main character and a cat from a famous painting.
I have worked with illustrations for different projects, but I was intrigued by the idea of doing a book with no words at all! So, as a challenge to myself, I decided to try.
