I dreamt of entering a sick whale to fix it, only to find chaos—trash clogging its insides. I’ve always admired whales, and that haunting image stayed with me, becoming the silent story I had to tell.
One day, a yellow submarine cruised through the depths of the sea. Inside, a marine biologist peeping through the window saw bubbles everywhere! With two other friends, they spotted a sad whale, groaning in pain. The bubbles were coming from inside the whale!
The three in yellow suits swam into the whale’s mouth. Inside, they found a huge mess—tires, plastic bags, empty bottles and even a piano! They quickly swam back to their yellow submarine and readied a clean up operation.
With nets, ropes, and a big vacuum, they went back inside the whale. They sorted out all the trash while the vacuum sucked up the little bits. Piece by piece, the whale got lighter and lighter. Finally, they packed all the trash up and sent it to the surface of the ocean. The whale’s belly was clean!
As they surfaced and got on their boat, dragging all the junk, the whale jumped up and waved goodbye with a big splash! The ocean sparkled, and the three little friends were proud and happy—mission accomplished!
This story came from my love for whales and worry about the environment.
As a child, I wondered how a picture book would feel without words. When I found the Silent Book Contest, it felt like a perfect match for my long-held curiosity, and I knew I had to participate!
