PERMESSO!

Camilla Neri (Italy)

How the idea for your silent story was born?

I made a list of things I wanted to draw, and among them were parades and processions. I was fascinated by the idea of crowds in motion. Once I decided I wanted to draw groups of beings (human and otherwise) walking together, I just had to decide what they were following and what was following them.

What's the story about?

The protagonist leaves home and encounters parades, marches, and processions of all kinds of people and creatures, all on the move: where are they going? He keeps walking, going further: what is he looking for? It’s a funny and silly story, but it’s also about the things we pursue, what drives us and what set us on our journey.

Why have you decided to enter the contest?

I love wordless stories because they’re often constructed in unexpected ways. When language isn’t available, you have to think of alternative ways to convey a story. I wanted to challenge myself and play with both the limits and freedom of this medium.
